Polyethylene tube films

Polyethylene tube films: Transparent packaging to protect your products

When it comes to packaging, there are a few key points to bear in mind:

  • Packaging needs to protect products
  • Packaging needs to showcase products
  • Packaging comes in all shapes and sizes

So, how can you find the right packaging for your product?

Needless to say, we could write entire books explaining how to build the perfect marketing strategy – but we don’t want to dive quite that deep into the detail. Instead, our focus is squarely set on protecting your product with primary packaging. Of course, there is a range of different options, such as paper, cardboard and different types of film. Let’s take a closer look at transparent tube films made from polyethylene.

LDPE and HDPE: One material – two films

Both films are made from the same raw material: ethylene, a by-product of crude oil and gas production. When treating and processing ethylene, monomers form long chains of molecules called polymers. These polymers can in turn be used to produce films in two different qualities: HDPE and LDPE.

Each of these polyethylene (PE) films offers specific advantages. In the following, however, we will direct our focus solely to transparent LDPE film, which we keep in stock for you in rolls of tube film in various thicknesses and widths.

LDPE film offers impressive transparency, allowing you to see exactly what you have packed and how much of it – and enabling your customers to see the contents straight away without having to open the packaging.

Wide selection of PE tube film: Four thicknesses, five roll lengths and even more widths

We can supply LDPE tube films in widths ranging from a narrow 80 mm to a broad 1100 mm, all in four different thicknesses:

  • 0.05 mm or 50 µm film thickness
  • 0.10 mm or 100 µm film thickness
  • 0.15 mm or 150 µm film thickness
  • 0.20 mm or 200 µm film thickness

Depending on the thickness of the film – and, in some cases, the width – we can supply tube films in five different lengths, from the handy 25 m roll to 150 m, 200 m, 250 m and 500 m rolls of tube film. Small rolls of 25 m of film have a manageable diameter of approx. 7–13 cm. Longer rolls of PE tube film also have a larger diameter, generally around 25–38 cm. In total, we offer polyethylene tube films in 65 different dimensions – available for immediate dispatch!

LDPE tube film or ready-made LDPE bags – which is right for me?

Both options have very specific advantages. Although a roll of PE tube film allows you to create individual PE bags with different lengths for different contents, the dimensions of ready-made polyethylene flat bags are pre-determined. In some cases, specific storage arrangements may need to be made to store bags of different dimensions; on the other hand, having a stock of ready-made bags saves the time required to produce them. Opting for rolls of LDPE tube film eliminates the need for such storage arrangements – provided that you only require one width of PE flat bags.

Ultimately, there are two factors to consider when deciding between transparent tube film and ready-made polyethylene bags:

  • Procurement price – in this regard, PE tube film offers significant advantages, though the time required to individually produce bags must be included in cost calculations.
  • Operational work processes

I see your LDPE tube films in stock – do you offer anything else?

The answer here is an emphatic YES! Whether transparent LDPE centre-folded film, coloured anti-static flat bags or tube films with transparent antistatic additives, LDPE bags with and without side pleats, coloured or printed LDPE tube films, UV-resistant PE tube films in different thicknesses, or… just about anything else. Don’t hesitate to ask!

We would be happy to put a proposal together for you.

A quick note about LDPE tube films and environmental sustainability

As mentioned above, polyethylene is derived from a gas called ethylene; it is a by-product of crude oil and gas production and does not entail any vapours or effluents.

Polyethylene is particularly easy to recycle. No matter how thick, homogeneous PE can pass through almost unlimited cycles of being melted down and turned into new products.

Even when PE is sent for thermal recovery, it is a high-quality fuel that contributes to energy generation.

We go one step further and have consciously decided to manufacture our LDPE tube films in Germany. This allows us to reduce our CO2 footprint through short transport routes.

By the way…

… whether you need to process PE tube films, PE centre-folded films or PE flat bags, and whether or not your films contain antistatic additives, we also have polystar® film sealers to help you do just that.
